General Motors vice president of global manufacturing and president of international operations Tim Lee recently joined GM Southeast Asia president Martin Apfel to hand out 130 virtually indestructible footballs to schoolchildren in Chon Buri.

John D. Rockefeller was the richest American in his time through the monopolistic Standard Oil. But while most rich families just passed on the enviable wealth to descendants, in 1913 the Rockefeller Foundation came into shape to solve social problems at their root causes. Starting from health, the foundation lives on for 100 years with the focus being extended to cover emerging issues like climate change.

Geothermal power has been one of green energy alternatives that energy authorities are looking into: how the underground heat can be turned into energy. In Thailand, there is one geothermal plant in Phang district, Chiang Mai, but with a small capacity of 0.3 megawatt.

The story of humanity is now the story of the city. The slow migration from rural to urban living became a torrent in the 20th century and, by the middle of this century, 80% of the world’s population will call a city their home; 4 billion will be under 30. Of course, “the city” is not a singular object; Addis Ababa is different from London, London is different from Rio, and Rio is different from Tokyo. However, the challenges and opportunities may be familiar across them all.
In a market where both residential and commercial consumers are giving recognition to their carbon footprint and taking control of their consumption, energy suppliers, technology companies, and even the government is getting involved -- making consumption data more accessible, creating initiatives that make these partnerships more feasible, and creating systems and technology to simplify and gauge behaviors and performance.
